Presence of a large saltwater lake confirmed by the Researchers, which was discovered two year ago, and it also detected three more lake hidden beneath the surface of Red planet ( Mars ).

The Researchers have finded the presence of three more lakes, besides a large reservoir discovered 2 year ago, the red planet, buried beneath the icy surface of Mars.

According to a paper published on Monday in Nature Astronomy, researchers have confirmed the presence of a saltwater lake, which was discovered two years ago by planetary scientists, and three more lakes hidden beneath the surface of the Mars.

A report in science magazine Nature quoted one of the paper's co-authors, Alina Patinelli, planetary scientist, University of Rome, as saying hat ''We identified a single body of water, but we also found three other bodies of water.'' The main one.. it is a complex system.

According to the finding, the lakes are spread over approximately 75,000 square kilometer, it is for about a fifth the size of the Germany. '' The largest, central lake, measures across 30 kilometers, and is surrounded by three smaller lakes, each a few kilometers wide,'' it said.

Now that researchers have confirmed the presence of underground water on Mars, the finding may open a new avenue for the investigating the Mars.


The scientists stated that if reservoirs exist, they could be potential habitats for Mars life.

The report said that  the researchers used radar data from the ( ESA ) European Space Agency, orbiting the mars express spacecraft to search the lakes.

''It follows the discovery of a single subsurface lake in the same area in the year 2018- which, if confirmed, would be the first body of liquid water found on the red planet and a potential habitat for life. But the search was based on  just 29 observation made from 2012 to 2015. It further proceeds.

'' The latest study used  comprehensive data set consisting of 134 observation between 2012 and 2019,'' the report stated.

Although scientists have said that the possible presence of water indicates potential habitat on the planet, the amount of salt in the lakes is the real problem here.

It is said that any underground lakes on Mars must have a high salt content to be watery liquid.

The report stated that there may be a small amount of heat in the interior of Mars. This alone will not be enough to melt the ice.

In addition, Patinelli said : '' from the thermal standpoint it should be salty.''

The report quoted Montana state University environmental scientist John Priscu as saying that the lake can support life with about five times the amount of salt in seawater, '' but as you approach seawater 20 times, life no longer exists''.


In the year 2018, researchers discovered a large saltwater lake hidden under ice near the south pole of Mars.

Then a report stated that, '' if confirmed, it would be the first body of liquid water found on the red planet and an important milestone in this quest to determine what life is....''

''The lake is about 1.5 kilometers below the surface of Mars and is at least 1 meter deep. To keep from freezing, the water needs to be very salty, says Orosei - probably reported earlier this year in the Canadian Arctic similar to super saline subglacial lakes. The presence of Mars lakes is debated among scientists and researchers. Following the 2018 observation researchers expressed concern over the lack of sufficient heat source to convert ice into the water.

According to the report, although the latest discovery support the 2018 discovery and contain much data, '' not everyone is yet convinced that the identified areas are liquid water''.
